Seattle City Council passes suite of parking reforms

Seattle City Council passes in a 7 to 1 vote a plan for large parking reforms including separating parking costs from rent and increasing bike parking requirements.

Key findings

Despite Seattle car commuting decreases, car ownership levels remain the same and increasing at the same rate that people are moving to the City.

Separating the costs of rent and parking in new developments could save developers oney and in return lead to lower costs of housing for residents.

The over-arching goal should be that people that do not drive and do not own vehicles should not be made to pay for parking on behalf of others.
