This year’s report builds on that same contextual foundation with updated travel trend charts and speed maps. Since 2015, the number of residents, jobs, and annual tourists have continued to grow. Even as the City encourages and facilitates the use of high performance modes, we recognize that the demands on our ?nite street network are only growing and our roadways are frequently functioning at capacity.

Key findings



NYC DOT conducted its first Citywide Mobility Survey in 2017. This online and phone survey of thousands of New Yorkers across all boroughs aims to help the agency understand the spcific factors and experiences that drive transportation choices for City residents.



Declining travel speeds are showing growth for need of road space.



Bus speeds dropping are not limited to the the CBD and are also happening in the outer boroughs.


