Shaping the Future of Automated Mobility
Just a year or so ago it seemed that autonomous vehicle fleets were preparing to flood city streets. That enthusiasm has been dampened by the technological challenges of safely deploying driverless vehicles as well as by the Covid-19 pandemic. Even during the pandemic, car and technology companies continue to conduct research and test vehicles on city streets across the US. Communities are working to ensure that when AVs do start operating on city streets, they provide transportation services for all residents.
This session highlights the cities of Detroit, Pittsburgh, and San Jose, and Miami-Dade County as they work and learn together to understand how they can design AV pilot projects and eventually shape AV deployment by engaging with local residents to ensure that AV services reflect community input and meet local needs. With support from the Knight Foundation, these communities are working to shape pilots and deployments with equity in mind. Moderated by Camron Bridgford of Cityfi and Nico Larco of the Urbanism Next Center at the University of Oregon, this webinar will highlight what these four locales are learning about automated passenger and delivery pilots.
