Parking Lots to Building Lots? - AVs, Parking Demand, and Impacts on Development

Studies have predicted a range of changes to parking demand based on AV deployment. This session will unpack those findings, discuss the variables that might impact AV-related parking demand, and report on a new study looking at the impacts AV-related parking reductions might have on residential and commercial development in three areas of San Francisco. We will then discuss what these results might mean in different cities, in central cities vs. suburbs, and what the public and private sector might do to achieve community goals around these topics.
