Just a year or so ago it seemed that autonomous vehicle fleets were preparing to flood city streets. That enthusiasm has been dampened by the technological challenges of safely deploying driverless vehicles as well as by the Covid-19 pandemic. Even during the pandemic, car and technology companies continue to conduct research and test vehicles on city streets across the US. Communities are working to ensure that when AVs start operating on city streets, they provide transportation services for a wide range of needs.
This webinar highlights the work in the cities of Detroit, Pittsburgh, and San Jose, and Miami-Dade County as they work and learn together to understand how they can design AV pilot projects and eventually shape AV deployment that engages local residents and reflects community input and meets local needs. With support from the Knight Foundation, these communities are working to shape pilots and deployments with equity in mind. Moderated by Story Bellows, Cityfi and Becky Steckler, Urbanism Next Center, find out about how communities are building trust and addressing AV challenges and opportunities for the most vulnerable populations within the communities.
