Karina Ricks is the inaugural director of the new Department of Mobility and Infrastructure for the City of Pittsburgh. Karina moved to the city in March 2017 after two decades in Washington, DC. As Director of DOMI, Karina oversees transportation investments and policies that support the physical mobility needed for the people of Pittsburgh to pursue the economic mobility they aspire to. Key initiatives of the department at present include design and implementation of a “complete network” that serves all modes and encourages more sustainable travel choices; resiliency projects to address issues related to landslides and incidents of flooding; policies and programs to manage emerging transportation including shared services and autonomous vehicles; and strategies to address long term maintenance and funding concerns. Prior to her move to Pittsburgh, Karina worked across the country and internationally a Principal and Multimodal Sector Leader for Nelson/Nygaard Consulting Associates after ten years in the public sector most recently as Director of Transportation Planning for the District of Columbia. Karina is a graduate of Cornell University, Michigan State University and a Fulbright Scholar.
